Community is at the root of what we do.

Our county has a long history of library service. The first library in the county opened in 1941 in Dandridge, TN. From 1957 to 2012, Jefferson County Public Library System was a member of the Nolichucky Regional Library System, but since 2012 we have been a member of the Clinch River Regional Library System. In its early days, Jefferson County had a number of bookmobile and deposit stations to serve its more rural residents. These locations included Chestnut Hill, Green Hill, Kansas, Mill Springs, New Market, Oak Grove, Oakland, Sandy Ridge, and Talbott. Over thirty-three different locations were used for these small libraries and bookmobile stations. Several of the bookmobiles and deposits were located in the homes of private individuals, but well-known area businesses such as Bush Brother’s General Store, Horner’s Beauty Shop, Leeper’s Store and Weaver’s Boat Dock also housed small collections of library books. These locations were all closed and bookmobile services discontinued by the early 1990s.

Today, the Jefferson County Library System consists of four libraries–Dandridge Memorial Library, Jefferson City Public Library, Parrott-Wood Memorial Library, and White Pine Public Library. We share the information, services, and opportunities that fulfill Jefferson County’s needs and aspirations in hopes of empowering every voice in our community. The libraries are funded through a combinaton of city and county appropriations and are governed by one county library board.
